Storage warning issue monitoring ESXi host with OpenManage Essentials

Hi-

We are trying to monitor a R710 server with ESXi 5.1, build 799733.  We have installed the latest VIB file and are receiving a warning under Data Sources for the host for Server Administrator (Storage Management) and for the Embedded ESX agent. 

We have been able to successfully monitor ESXi 5.0 and 5.5 hosts using OpenManage Essentials, but are not familiar enough with it to understand why it is not working with 5.1.  It appears to maybe be an issue with the VIB however it displays correctly in the vSphere client.

Any assistance with this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Updating BIOS for Dell Poweredge M610 blade

Hi All, I have a Dell PowerEdge M610 that is showing error codes in the idrac logs regarding ram memory. The specific error reads:

ECC Uncorr Err: Memory Sensor, uncorrectable ECC (DIMM_B2) was asserted

I read online that it is a good idea to start with updating the bios and firmwares for various components, and to try to swap the ram memory to different set of ram slots.

My question is I have linux Centos installed on the system, when I look on the support website for firmwares, all I get are .BIN files for linux O/S.  How can I go about installing these firmware updates? Do I use the idrac 6 interface? 

Any info or links to procedures on this would be much appreciated.  Thanks!

Add 3 disk to raid 5 Perc 6 / i poweredge t710

I have a poweredge T710 server with PERC6 / i, 3 hdd 500 GB in raid 5.
added 3 discs  and we add them to the current raid to expand virtual disks.

i was reading and found found information, you can do that can not be done, you can add disks to the omconfig but can not expand the virtual disk.

that tasks can personally do? as performed?

DELL OMSA [Windows Server 2003 R2 64bit] Storage not shown [10-14-2014]

Hello everyone,


I have a general issue/question. I've setup DELL OMSA on a poweredge 1950 using Windows Server 2003 R2 and the only portion not showing up in the system listing is the storage controller.


The system is running the following:

Dell OpenManage Server Administrator Version 5.3.0

This is showing everything except the storage controller. Please advise how we can upgrade this to show the PERC controller/storage for the following:

Dell C6100 - BMC Keyboard not responding

Hello,

BMC keyboard on my Dell C6100 is not working. There is no firewall between PC and BMC, I am able to ping and access Dell Remote Management Controller via Web from multiple machines in my network. I see Remote Console keyboard issue from Windows 2008 and Windows7.

Everything is working via web except keyboard not responding in Remote Console.

Firmware Revision : 01.32.28014
AuxFirmwareRevision : 28014
Build Time : May 18 2013 21:51:22

I see similar issue has been faced by others and many of them have recommended upgrading BMC firmware, so I have downloaded new firmware from Dell Support site

FIle Name - ESM_Firmware_9VJW6_LN32_1.33.BIN

When I go to Dell Remote Management >> Web Interface >> Maintenance

and try to upgrade firmware, I am seeing following error message.

Image Verification did not succeed. Please check if you uploaded the correct Image. In order to try upgrading again you need to reset the device. Press OK to reset the device now.

R720 Broadcom Teaming Smart Load Balancing and Failover vs Link Aggregation

I need one clarification on teaming with smart Load Balancing/ Failover and Link Aggregation,

If I create a team with two NIC, I believe both of the above terming techniques will use both NIC cards simultaneously.

For example a team with 2 NIC cards of 1gbps each, then the throughput will be 2gbps for both  Load Balancing/ Failover and Link Aggregation.

Remote Access

Hi Everyone,

           I am new to servers, from what I have read about the DRAC everyone is saying press control-E. When my server is booting up, I have asked to press Control-D, to access Dell Embedded Remote Access. I set the IP address, as well as the gateway and submask. When I try to remote desktop into it, is says I need Sun Java Virtual Machine 1.4.1 version.

How do I which DRAC I have?, and Is there a way to update the DRAC software?

R720 LC not listing latest firmware releases

Hello,

I'm trying to update firmwares using LC in a R720.

However, I see more recent versions in site that LC lists me. It says it is using catalog 2010.10.0 but it does not list BIOS 2.4.3

Should catalog be regenerated at Dell?

BTW, the only pending update listed was PS, which I lost a day trying to apply. It always gave me error SUP0538. I only managed to install it after reseting idrac config (quite anoying).

M100e CMC Server Component Update failing

Hi guys, I need some help setting up Server Component Update from a Network Share. I followed the official guide, the shared folder contains the Catalog.xml and the test from the CMC works fine.

When I try to check for updates 8 of my 9 blade servers report "Cannot check for updates" (after a long time), 1 tells "No Updates Available". Sometime one of the failing servers tells "Unkown response" or something like that.

What could be wrong?

I am using Dell RM 1.9.1. I tried to create a bootable iso SUU for driver / firmware updates, but it always got the following errors. How to solve it ?

Monitoring PE R610 running RHEL4 with OMSA

Hi,

I have been pulling my hair out to get OMSA working on a PE R610.

I have tried many OMSA versions and finally was able to get version 6.0.1 running correctly. However i am still missing the most important bit of info i was hoping for:

omreport storage controller
No controllers found

This is what i get in dcsys32.xml:

The initialization sequence of SAS components failed during system startup. SAS management and monitoring is not possible.

The Red Hat server is 32 bits so is OMSA.

Here is a list of components installed (I have installed them from source as there is a problem using yum repos with RHEL4, unfortunately i have to stick with this distro for now):

I have tried to install OMSA 6.3 which is listed on Dell Drivers page as the latest version supported on R610 with RHEL4 but when i run the installer i receive:

M1000 switch FC

I have a blade M100 and a switch Fc broadcade M5424.

When I try to give persistent enable on licensed port I have error:

NIC Teaming Query

I have two Cisco 2960 switches, up-linked together.(not stacked)

Can I create a NIC team with the first option "Smart Load Balancing and Failover" and keep one NIC on Switch-A and another NIC on Switch-B?

Also with the above cisco setup (no stack module) can I have a LACP team? LACP group should take one port from each switch to have a switch redundancy.

R610 iDRAC. Integrated?

I've assigned a static IP configuration to several R610 via CTRL-E.  None of these machines have the optional iDRAC enterprise card installed.


For love or money, I cannot ping these machines, and I've tried everything.


However, my question is this.  Is iDRAC Express integrated into the R610?  I think it is but the evidence at the moment (several machines) suggests that it doesn't work.  We plan to purchase the Enterprise card shortly but it would be good to at least use the Express functionality until then.


Incidentally, EVERY server reports "No Active LOM found" at the moment.

VRTX RAID monitoring via SNMP

Hello,

We want to monitor RAID status on our Dell VRTX server via SNMP.

I've downloaded DELL-RAC-MIB.mib from VRTX CMC, but there's no OID for RAID status - only some global system status (which is overall chassis status).

Maybe it is possible to monitor it via IPMI?

PS. We don't want to monitor RAID status on each blade, only for 'whole chassis'.

I have a Dell T420 running Windows 8.1 Pro. Is it possible to install OMSA on this system to monitor and manage the server? Or is OMSA compatible only with the Windows Server line of OSes?

Is there a way to query the CMC IP/blade slot from iDRAC racadm command?

I need to be able to get the IP address of the CMC of the chassis and the slot number from the DRAC of that blade. Since this information is available in the web interface I assume it must be passing through the DRAC but I haven't been able to locate this information from racadm getsysinfo or doing a configuration dump.

Preferably I would like this to work on 11g servers as that is the oldest hardware that is common in the environment I support.

I go to the configuration of Idrac to change the adress ip

But when i go to the web https or http://adressip

I have a error message: he can't find the site

Do you have a procedure to configure idrac

Problems with attached media

Hi.

I can`t seem to get the attached media to work. I am trying to install a os from a .iso file on a r720xd with iDrac7 Express.

I have tried going to Overview > Server > Attached media but the documentation is very unclear what to do then. Could someone give me an example here?
