Dell System Management tools and Documents versions for Power Edge R710 generation 11

I am holding a power Edge 710 (generation 11) circa July 2011 just off lease....( 2ea actually)

Ok...I have SERVICE TAGS and have been on line downloading lots of drivers and management software that seems to be correct for that service tag. BUT I keep getting references to later generations (like 12G) or others that are well after these older R710's that I have.

Very specific question --- I have a gen 11 PowerEdge R710... Is the "Dell System Management Tools & Documentation DVD ISO v8.2' correct for a gen 11 R710

There are similar questions about other support software product versions but what I am hopping exists is a matrix of versions for each generation along with firmware updates and if necessary firmware update installation order which I have noted is required for some updates.

I have NOT turned the systems on NOR have I installed anything yet. Eventually I hope to use the integrated boot support/setup system to get the current firmware status of each piece of hardware. Then I will begin updating as necessary.

But before I do anything I would like to know what system software versions of the management software is compatible with a gen 11 PowerEdge R710.

Give me a link to the matrix or a list of software products with compatible versions that will get me going - for a no OS system with a set of 8 empty Dell 146GB SAS 15K HDD's, 144GB ram, iDRAC enterprise version, with 2ea 870w redundant power supplies. My plan is to use drives 0 & 1 raid 1? (mirroring) for the OS and drives 2-7 in a Raid 5 to begin with. I have hopes of putting in 300GB drives across all 8 slots within a year or 2.

Don't be shy I know I have a lot to learn but I have 35yrs of playing with computer systems in general so how bad can it get <:))

HOW RMM works in DELL server?

Hi all,

Good day! I'm still new in server world and I want to find out what is the use of RMM port in a DELL server. In my understanding RMM is use to remotely easy access the server.

Question? Can RMM  port support the application OS like Windows, LINUX or CENTOS  or it just in BIOS level?

I appreciate your time to read and provide a simple answer to my question.

Thank you very much!

Cheers,

Dell DSET report crashing

Hi All,

I'm trying to run a DSET report on a PE720 running CentOS 6.7 and am getting the error below in the messages. I have modified the /etc/redhat-release and /etc/issue which work for OpenManage so I don't see that as the issue. Anyone see this before?

System Profile Attribute for iDRAC Settings - Thermal

I am working on automating our deployment standardization. I am using System Profile xml imports do do this with good results.

One outstanding item I have not been able to manage through an xml import is a setting that is found when booting into the Lifecycle Controller > System Settings > iDRAC Settings > Thermal in the User Options area.

The cooling options come default as set to auto and I need to change this to Fan Speed Offset and set the offset to Low Offset.

I am unable to find an attribute for these settings on a full System Profile export on an R620.

Is this a setting that has no attribute and cannot be managed through automation?

Can't remove Open Manage

Hoping someone out there can give me some assistance.

I have a Dell PowerEdge T710 running SBS2008 R2.  We are trying to update the Openmanage.  Currently, I believe it is running 6.2??  When I try to uninstall, this is the message that I get:

Error 1321.  The installer has insufficient priveleges to modify the file c:\Program files (x86)\Dell\SysMgt\iws\config\keystore.db.

I tried using OMCLEAN tool, but it failed.  I don't know the exact failure.   I would have to rerun it and post. Tried installing Revo Uninstaller, but Openmanage is not listed.

Does someone know of another way to get this uninstalled?  Appreciate any help.

Dell OpenManage 8.3.0 on Linux

I have a PE2950 running Centos 6.7, with OpenManage installed and the Dell Repository added.  After running an update, which updated OpenManage, there is no hardware information being returned to OpenManage.  No System components, no storage, nothing.  Before the update, everything was working fine.  If I try and restart the OpenManage software, this is what I get:

[root@server ~]# /opt/dell/srvadmin/sbin/srvadmin-services.sh restart

Notice that dsm_sa_datamgrd fails to stop because it says it is not running, and even though is says it starts OK, I suspect it is crashing and that is why no data is reported back to the software.  Does anyone else have this problem?  Does anyone know how this can be fixed?

Hi,

We are currently deploying Windows 2008 R2 on around 14 new Servers with R420 and R430.

Have anyone tried to create a Server image and restore it on a different machine with the same specification/model? That would really speed things up for me..

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

I am able to sign into our DRAC 6 Enterprise, when launching the console/media viewer receive message connection failed.  In other posts this issue was resolved by updating firmware.  We are on firmware 1.10.13.  Which firmware/and or lifecycle perquisites do we need to resolve this issue?  FYI We have 4 other DRACs that are working without any issues.  I have been on the Dell Support/Drivers and found many 64bit and legacy firmware iDRAC and lifecycle updates.

Thank you for your help,

Poweredge R420 PSU bricked

Hi, I have managed to brick R420 PSU during firmware upgrade. Too early pulled out power cord. Delta electronics, 550W, RYMG6.

Fortunately I still have access over iDrack management interface. According to Help, it can be used also to re-flash power supply. I downloaded correct file (*.exe) format and tried to upload it. Upload seems to be successful, but it gives status message:

"Unable to complete the firmware update operation because the specified firmware image is for component that is not in the target system inventory"

I even tried previous version, but result is the same.

Under hardware node, I can see Power supply, powered off state. It looks like upgrade process cannot verify PSU model.

Anyone have seen similar? Any other tricks to try?

What is RBSD File Type?

I'm surprised I can't find an answer to this by 'googling' - various downloads from Dell include this file format type (which is a zipped).

Does anyone know what these are?

IPMI Over LAN - Unable to Login

Hello,

I have an R630 that seemingly out of the blue, stopped allowing me to login via IPMI over LAN. SSH and GUI access with the default credential still worked.

I tried upgrading the firmware to 2.21.21.21 from 2.20.20.20 and issuing a hard reset but the issue still persisted until I "reset" the password back to calvin.

Any idea what could be the cause?

When connecting to the io module consoles, they are unresponsive.  Also the ability to reset them or the entire chassis fail.  Some things work like showing the services tags, or listing io modules etc., but right now I can’t proceed with configuring the uplinks until it starts behaving.

Does anyone have a good method to monitor the availability of a remote drac?

It seems that whenever I need to access the server's drac via a web browser I discover it is not responding. Just hoping that someone has a method to monitor possibly using Server Administrator with an email alert.

This has happened on various firmware, drac version's and using various browsers.

I have a Dell Poweredge 2950 server for almost 10 years. Recently, one of the HDD, slot 5 failed (showing amber light). I made a purchase for the HDD replacement

Picture below shows amber light on drive 5

Old HDD

New HDD (Replacement HDD)

However, when i inserted new HDD into the server, the amber light still appears. I went into configuration utility to check if the SAS for the faulty drive (drive 5) was online but it did not detect the new HDD at all.

It only shows Drive 0,1,2,3,4,6,7 online. Drive 5 was missing.

I went to check system event log and found that the drive fault was assertedon even when the new HDD was inserted.

Is it possible that my new HDD fujitsu MBB2174RC firmware wasnt compatible with the server? It doesnt make sense that it didnt work even though I have made the same model purchase to replace the faulty one. Possible backplane faulty? Firmware incompatible issue or new HDD also spoilt?

This is the first time I had encountered this issue. I have called Dell support line and they suspected backplane faulty. But what i understand that the backplane could not have spoilt so easily.

Any advise will be appreciated.

Regards,

Terry

I tried everything I read about correcting this issue. The problem occurs on post. It seems to be a hardware failure. Does anyone know if the iDARC is on the motherboard or is it a separate card in the server. Fans are on full speed and nothing showing on the little display that is on the server.
