Can I use 16GB vFlash from iDRAC 7 on iDRAC 6?

I have a PowerEdge R410 with iDRAC 6 Enterprise. Currently it has no vFlash card installed but I would like to get one. I would like to get the biggest card I can. I don't believe 16GB was an option when the R410 was current and I can't find any 16GB vFlash card that says it will work with IDRAC 6. I don't know if that's because of a physical limitation or if it's simply because it was never sold by Dell as an option for iDRAC 6. Does anyone know if the 16GB vFlash card will work with iDRAC 6?

Service Tag and other Dell details missing after BIOS update on R710

Hi all,

Have just ran the most recent SUU on a clients PE R710, which amongst other things updated the BIOS to the latest v6.4.0.

Now when running some key WMI queries via Powershell get-wmiobject the Service Tag and other Dell details are missing.

For example, running Get-wmiobject Win32_computersystem, returns

Manufacturer : DELL__
Model : PE_SC3__

running Get-wmiobject Win32_bios, returns

SMBIOSBIOSVersion :
Manufacturer :
Name : Phoenix ROM BIOS PLUS Version 1.10
SerialNumber :
Version : DELL - 1

running Get-wmiobject Win32_systemenclosure, returns

Manufacturer :
Model :
LockPresent : True
SerialNumber :
SMBIOSAssetTag :
SecurityStatus : 2

Curiously, In OMSA, under 'System Summary', the Chassis Service Tag is still showing the correct value.

I've reapplied the BIOS and it makes no difference.

any ideas on why this has happened and how i fix it?

cheers

iDrac 8 Virtual Console very unstable

I just got in a few new servers and have some strange issues with the iDrac 8 Virtual Console. I have one PE730, two PE730xd, and two PE430.

What will happen is that that sporadically it will stop responding for a second or so. It will sometimes show a "Link Interrupted" on the bottom and then the screen will show "Reconnecting" for about 30 seconds but it will reconnect and work for a bit. It happens quite frequently about 1-2 times every 5 minutes but not always.

What's really strange is the two PE430 iDrac modules don't have this issue, just the two PE730 servers. They are all on the same network and even the same switch. The ports look fine and I don't see any errors on the ports to suggest dropped packets or something else. I've even moved them around switches but it's always the same.  I've tried changing the performance settings and everything I can on the Java virtual console client but it makes no difference.

Any idea what I can try to fix this or at least find what is causing it? At least it works but it's very frustrating while working on it.

Thanks

Unable to update firmware on 720xd via lifecycle controller

Hi,

i have several 720xd chassis where i have a hard time updating to the latest firmware.

If i boot the machine in the lifecycle controller and select firmware updates and mount the latest SUU dvd i can see that it needs PSU and NIC firmware updates.

But both of these fail everytime I try!

After this i tried booting with the SBUU dvd and then selecting firmware, change mounted DVD to SUU and select DVD repo.

What is interesting, is that i can then also see that all the HDDs need firmware updates, but not the NICs. and the PSU. But in this way none of the firmware will be updated.

So how am i supposed to get this right?

I also have some issues with the newer 730xd's but that is yet another story :|

VRTX CMC Fails to asssign spare disks

$

Hi all, hoping someone can help me with the following:

I have one particular VRTX chassis (FW 2.0) that we've deployed for a customer. We have 16 x 2.5" disks installed (all 1.2TB 10k SAS) and we've configured split 14 of these into 2 Virtual Disks (1 is RAID-10 and 1 is RAID-6. We have  2 remaining disks in the chassis that are sitting in a 'ready' state.

As all teh disks are the same specification, i'd like to assign both of these to be 'global spare' disks.

However, when I try and and assign these disks to be spares, either globally or individually to each of the 2 virtual disks as dedicated spares, it fails with the CMC page throwing the following error:

"JCP003 Job Failed.

Detailed Description:
An iDRAC reboot caused a failure of the scheduled jobs.

Recommended Action:
Retry the update and schedule the update job."

Can anyone shed any light please?? From my initial research, JCP003 seems to be a fairly generic error code. I've also tried fialing over the CMC to the passive controller but this doesn't help.

Thanks,

JB.

NIC Teaming Kills Performance of T630

I have just installed new T630 with Windows server 2012 R2.

I am finding that if I team the 2 NIC's the performance drops through the floor.  So much so that I can't RDP into the server, unless I am physically on the network with it.  Even Logmein Rescue is abysmal and keeps dropping.

I need to administer this machine remotely and want the security of having 2 NIC's teamed as I am not on site.

If I un-team the Nics, it runs as I would expect and RDP works great over the VPN connection.

I have seem some reference to broadcom NICs having issues (until the next version of the firmware comes out) and to deselect the Visualization features of the NICS (Virtual Queuing), but Mine are both Intels.

Do you think I should try this?  I have an iDRAC so I could try it remotely.

Thanks

Installation of the Proof of Purchase from the ACPI table failed. Error code: 0xC004F057

I have the issue as detailed in this fix.

My question is....

Can I run a key extractor to get the key out of my server and put it back? or do I need some other way of getting the key?

There is a sticker on the side of the server, is that the one to use?

I tested this on a sacrificial machine and it failed.  Now this could be because the key was no good (though I do not think that is the case), but I am concerned to do it to my clients machine and render it inert.

Thoughts please.

Thanks

Why does the Dell Server Deployment Pack require that the "Specify an FQDN for this site system for use on the Internet" setting be enabled in the Site System role in SCCM 2012?

$

I am trying to setup OSD for a PowerEdge R630 and going through the DSDP 3.0 documentation, it states that the "Specify an FQDN for this site system for use on the Internet" setting needs to be enabled. I don't have IBCM setup in my SCCM environment and I don't understand why the DSDP utility requires this.

Can someone please offer some guidance here, please?

Thanks

Delta 495W PSU (PN: N24MJ) Firmware Package

Hi,

I used SUU from within Windows to apply the update and reboot the server as needed. However, after the server came back up SUU still reports the old firmware version 07.25.7D and shows the availability of the Critical Upgrade to firmware version 07.25.7E. This seems to be stuck in a loop. Any ideas?

This is on a Dell T420.

Thanks!

Dell MP for SCOM V6 workflow initialization issue

Running SCOM 2012R2 and upgrade to Dell Management Pack for Microsoft System Center Operations Manager, v.6.0.  On my Hyper-V servers I'm getting Workflow Initialization: Failed to start a workflow that runs a process or script.  Haven't been able to figure out how to resolve this, or if it is because we configure our networking for Hyper-V.  Any insight would be appreciated.

Data was found in the output, but has been dropped because the Event Policy for the process started at 8:33:59 AM has detected errors.
The 'ExitCode' policy expression:

How to know which driver package to use for my Dell Bare Metal Server Deployment Task Sequence

In the Select a Driver Package Wizard, there are several packages that I imported from the Dell Systems Management Tools and Documentation DVD ISO download that pertain to Server 2012 R2, but I have no idea which driver package to select.

I see Dell PEFC, Dell PEFM, Dell PEM, Dell PER.

I did not order this server and I am working remotely so I am not certain how I can obtain this info.

If someone can offer some guidance, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thank you

Can not Launch iDRAC6 virtual console on FireFox

Hi Guys,

I want to login to a remote server via iDRAC.

I can login to the iDRAC but not able to launch the virtual console from there.

every time I try to launch the JNLP, it throws below error and quits.

-----------------------

Missing Application-Name manifest attribute for: xxx/.../avctKVM.jar
Missing Permissions manifest attribute in main jar: xxx/.../avctKVM.jar
6 26, 2015 1:44:52 PM java.util.prefs.WindowsPreferences <init>

06/26/2015 01:44:52:909: Starting client.
java.lang.reflect.InvocationTargetException

........

---------------------------

I suppose above is just a warning and is not the actual reason/root cause of the issue.

the iDRAC bios version is 1.70.

I am using firefox 31.4.

Java version : java 8, update 45.

os: windows 7 64 bit.

A day before i could login to the console but i could not enter anything from keyboard. keyboard input was not just accepted.

when i continued doing some debugging and google search today, the login expired due to session timeout.  then I was not able to  even login to the iDRAC. Then I cleared the Firefox browser cache.

Then I could login but now no access to virtual console.

I tried to search a lot on google and do some changes on my machine which went in vein , hence opening a case with dell forum so that somebody could help.

Let me know about below.

1. how to successfully launch virtual console.

2. once launched how to enable the keyboard input.

Thanks!

Rohant.

Cannot add Distribution Point on Step 9, page 16 of the DSDP 3.0 User's Guide under section "Creating the bootable media for OS deployment"

$

I have a standalone primary site server setup and only one DP role at my datacenter. When I try to browse for a DP on the Customization section of the Create Task Sequence Media Wizard, I cannot find the Distribution Point, but I was able to do so on earlier sections of the same Wizard. I am assuming it does not want to use the same DP for this particular step. So, I then created a temporary DP using a Windows 7 SP 1 system and I still was not able to see any DP, perhaps due to it not being a Server OS DP.

Here is the link to the Dell Server Deployment Pack 3.0 User's Guide:

http://topics-cdn.dell.com/pdf/dell-srvr-dplymnt-pck-v3.0-for-systm-center-config-mangr_User's%20Guide_en-us.pdf

Can anyone help me with this, please?

Thank you

RAIDCFG.exe not working

We have automated our server builds, and have been using raidcfg.exe to automate the setting the array with no issues until now.  We have been certifying the new PE x30 series servers for the build and the RAIDCFG.exe is not working on these. Specifically, it does not detect the hard drives.  Here is the current iteration of the ini file we are using, but still getting no array disks found error message.

[vdisk0]
controllerid=0

Even trying to dump the configuration to a file does not pull the disks.  We are using the current version of server administrator and the tools, and FW on the server has been updated to the most current versions.

OME system update

Hi,

During the updates i found out that OME shows wrong update packages, for R320 and R720 servers: Intel NIC drivers ( "www.dell.com/.../DriversDetails" ).

These servers never had this kind of hardware.

Any idea how to ignore, delete the wrong updates?

Thanks, Robert
